Pictures @ an Exhibition: "The Unemployed Musician"

Music: Saint-Saens ("Sonata for Oboe & Piano," performed by Allan Vogel)

A few things of interest:

A.) My room is finally completely emptied except for the closet and I'm now awaiting to tear everything down and start anew. The only thing that I'm a little worried about is the mold-ish looking spots on my walls...Anyway, the color I've chosen is a beautiful dark blue called "Peaceful Night" by the Behr company. Hopefully the paint sample taped to my wall is correct and it will be that gorgeous when it's done.

B.) I'm practicing the Idyllwild audition material, which is the Haydn Oboe Concerto and parts to "Pictures at an Exhibition" and "Symphonic Dances from 'West Side Story.'" I must say that those parts are HARD!! The Mussorgsky is full of high notes and fast stuff and general hard stuff. The Bernstein is full of jazz rhythms and some other technical stuff. I really hope I do well - I'd love to be playing 2nd oboe in the orchestra, but E. horn wouldn't be too bad either, but I'm a little nervous about that because of my experience (or somewhat lack thereof) on it w/ an ensemble...I'm looking forward to those 2 weeks, regardless...

C.) Doug sent to me what he has of the piece I'm "commissioning" from him for my recital - it's pretty cool - it's in E-flat minor and has some pretty technical stuff. I really like it so far - it almost sounds like some of the stuff I've written, melody-wise, which is kinda funky... like I said - a great piece so far. I'm sure I'll be really happy with the end result.

D.) I'm going to Chicago next weekend to see Kristina and Doug - this time alone, 'cause I'm taking the train and will be staying overnight w/ either one of them. I just bought the ticket today and hope that lodging won't be problem. I think it'll work with 'Stina because she offered last time I came and so, hopefully, the option is still open. It should be a fun weekend!!

Other than that, there's not too much going on...just...being here.
