Oi!

Oi, it's been awhile! Busy seems to be the way of life towards the end of the semester. Here are a few highlights of the last few weeks:

~ April 10th Chamber Music Concert: The Beethoven actually went pretty well. I got plenty of compliments from a varieyt of people, including Allan, Kathy, Julie, Maria Fortuna Dean, and Lily. Allan said that he'd like to hear it again, as he wasn't impressed by the horn playing...The chamber singers stuff went over nicely as well, as Mozart is great music. I managed to sneak in a quick outfit change, as I was wearing jeans and one of my blue shirts for the Beethoven and then changed into all black for the chamber singers. Overall, the concert had great repertoire. I then think I went over to Blake's for awhile afterward.

~ The week of my birthday went quickly and was busy, but awesome. The SCVYP rehearsals were in the pit and that was fun. Here's the full list of what we played: Clair De Lune, Valse Triste (I floboed..), Pavane, Mahler (strings only), Saturday Night Waltz, Hoe Down, and Porgy and Bess. It was a good time w/ LOTS of oboe, as well as playing w/ a whole host of CalArts people. On the May 12th concert, we're going to play all of Rodeo. My birthday was pretty uneventful...typcial Thursday, except I did end up over @ Blake's after the art opening for a little while. Then, the next night was the Puccini opera, which was fun and moving.

Grr...I can't remember much right now...I'll update later - oh, Heather's recital went very well today.

Oops

This is creepy; I'm getting to be like my parents, as I PROMISED another entry last night, but delayed it until today...I even had the same reason: I was tired and didn't feel like it...

Anyway, tonight should be eventful - after I'm done here, it's off to get a bite to eat, work on reeds, have a quick rehearsal w/ Andrea and Kathryn, practice some technique and other odds and ends, attend the Balinese Monkey Chant performance in the MOD, and then to the art opening. I'm hoping to get in another round of "Battlestar Galactica" as well, if Blake is up for it.

My lesson went pretty well, and we spent a good amount of time working on Beethoven and Saint-Saens. So, next up is finishing up the Haydn concerto. I just got out of an orch. rehearsal, and I have to say, that Ruhdyar piece is slowly growing on me - there's some nice places in there. Oh, and just now, outside ROD, it looked as though someone had collapsed, as there was a cop, some paramedics, and some other people there - I think I heard stroke or seizure or something like that.

Call me a drama queen if you wish, but I still can't believe I'm finally out to the 'rents. It feels so surreal, but I think things will be better in the long run, as there's really no more secrets, as far as I know. Of course, my previous escapades during the last 6 or so years can remain in my head or in the heads of those whom I tell, but I can bet that mom and dad DON'T want to hear about me hooking up w/ that guy @ MSU or how I was a total internet slut for almost any guy under 30 with a big dick...

I also picked up "8 Minutes in the Morning," @ the recommendation of Dr. Wenzel, so that should be an interesting time. "Wild @ Heart" is pretty good, too, and I'm glad Matt suggested it and that I'm reading it. It really brings back some of the good qualities about being a guy.

Enough for now; I'm starving.

I'm getting worried about the upcoming SCVYP performances, as the last rehearsal wasn't where it should be. Yes, Copland isn't easy, but we've had the music since February, and people should be practicing. The entire program is A LOT of music, which should drive the point home even more. Since we're playing in a pit for dancers, I would think it would have to be the same level as a regular performance, if not more, since people are using us as cues.
Here @ school, I'm also playing quite a bit. Mostly, I'm worried about the upcoming chamber music concert this coming Monday night...I really don't think Beethoven will be ready, even though we're rehearsing tonight and Friday. But still, that's less than 10 rehearsals, period. Granted, we didn't get the music until a few weeks ago, but still. Bwah!! Confusion reigns! I'm also playing for a singer's recital, playing a oboe/violin I in Handel thing, along with my other Baroque music.

Must run, I promise another entry tonight.

What time zone am I really in?

I'm back in L.A. and it oddly feels nice to be back, although I could use another week off @ home...anyway, Blake was my lifesaver and picked me up last night and we even set aside tonight for another "Battlestar Galactica" marathon, which makes me very happy. The trip back was really, ridiculously slow, as the original plane had maintenance problems, so we were delayed an hour to wait for a plane to come from Denver, and then people don't know how to board an airplane efficiently; what's so hard about putting your stuff under your seat or above you and sitting down? Make sure you have what you need/want for the trip in the bag (if you have 2) that's not totally put away...I mean, hello, common sense. The ride itself was hot, stuffy, but had a nice view from the window. I love it when the flight attendants give you the entire can of juice, rather than this measly little cup with like 3 oz. We ended up hitting the ground @ 10:30, I made it to Van Nuys around 11:20ish and didn't get home until 12:30.
So, I'm totally not going to be w/ it for a few days, as my body is completely screwed up from time changes...blah; I mean, I woke up @ 7:30 this morning...of course, those stupid birds and noisy suburb noise didn't help, but still...that's an hour and 1/2 before Plus, the irony in life never ceases to amaze me, as I said the other night that my sex drive was all but dead, however, now (and last night) I'm totally in the mood for a long night of hot, wild, animalistic sex. But, we all know THAT'S going to happen, as I have men lining up @ my door...I swear, if I didn't know any better, I'd say that travelling makes one horny as all get out.

I'll post about how things went on Saturday night a little later, when I can actually think. I will say, however, that those 2-3 hours were THE MOST awkward moments in my life. Not something I wish to repeat EVER AGAIN. As I said, I'll write more later. Off to the shower.
